Ta’allum and British Council Sign Groundbreaking IELTS Partnership Agreement

Ta’allum Group have entered into a formal partnership agreement with the British Council to deliver IELTS in its three academies. Mr. Ahmed Al Mannai met with British Council CEO, Mr Scott McDonald, to formally ratify the partnership in a recent official signing ceremony. The ground-breaking international partnership will have many benefits for Ta’allum students.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to measure English proficiency for educational, vocational and immigration purposes. The IELTS measures an individual’s ability to communicate in English across four areas of language: listening, reading, writing and speaking. It is administered by the British Council, at over 1,100 test centres across 140 countries. IELTS is a reliable indication of a student’s English language competencies, entry level English proficiency, and of a student’s ability to pursue higher education in English.

The British Council IELTS Partnership programme will ensure that Ta’allum students can register for the tests at their own schools. A designated portal registration link for each individual school will be activated and the IELTS testing can take place at each of the Ta’allum schools.

The benefits are manifold. IELTS is accepted worldwide. Some universities require students to sit for the IELTS exam before applying for admission. In addition, many universities in Qatar require passing the IELTS test for admission. Top universities use IELTS as a means of ‘differentiation’ when processing applications in courses with high levels of competition for entry.  Many foreign Universities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as professional universities, consider IELTS scores to examine whether a person is capable of coping with with the programme’s medium of instruction, that is, English. Even many non-English speaking countries require IELTS scores for courses that are taught in English.

From a student’s point of view, preparation for IELTS will help them to improve their English language skills and therefore, succeed in their selected course in an effective manner. Obtaining a good score will all the more increase the student’s confidence in the sense that he/she will be able to pursue the courses without any linguistic hurdles.

Ta’allum English teachers in all 3 academies have recently undergone training to enable them to support students in their preparations to sit the IELTS. This ensures convenience for students through high quality IELTS preparations in school, along with ‘Stretch and Challenge’ Mock tests.

Dr. Mohammed Saefan, Ta’allum’s Director of Education stressed that ‘Excellent command of the English language is a prerequisite for effective learning both at school and in most IGCSE, IAS and in university degree courses. A high IELTS score can benefit students in their aspirations to enter the world’s best universities. All Ta’allum students are encouraged to aim high.’

Mr Ahmed Al Mannai, Ta’allum CEO said ‘We are delighted to enter this important and prestigious partnership with the British Council. IELTS is a significant qualification, which will become part of the Ta’allum education offer. It will be a vital part of the preparation for our students’ futures amidst increasing global mobility for study and career opportunities beyond school.

Registration arrangements and course details will shortly be published and available.
