Ta’allum Students Compete for ‘Times Tables Rock Star’ Titles

Fast paced, quick witted Ta’allum students battled it out in the finals of the Ta’allum ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ competition. Taking place in the auditorium at AMAB, the audience of competitors, parents, teachers, and school leaders witnessed a tense and exciting competition. The event was one of the first after the pandemic in which the 3 schools were able to come together in a spirit of friendly rivalry.

‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ is a carefully sequenced online programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every third week or so. This format has very successfully boosted times tables recall speed for hundreds of thousands of pupils over the last 8 years both primary and secondary - worldwide.

Organised by AMAB teacher, Ms. Faduma, who was ably assisted by Ms. Aisha and Ms. Maria of AJA and AMAG, the event opened with a personal message of goodwill and encouragement for Ta’allum students from Bruno Reddy, CEO, and founder of TT Rock Stars. The students entered the hall, announced by Master of Ceremonies,Mr. Mohammed Ghannam, in a dramatic procession before entering the ‘ring’. With a separate competition for each year group from Year 3 to Year 6, the knockout rounds preceded the finals. Brave parents also entered the ring to participate in an extra surprise competition! The Winners were presented with their prizes by AMAB Principal, Mr Peter.

Ta’allum’s Director of Education, Dr Mohammed Saefan said ‘Times Tables are an essential foundation of Maths learning. Speed and accuracy are very important – the more adept and confident students are with their times tables, the easier it is for students to do harder calculations.
