Ta’allum Education Department introduced new BTEC Level 3 Courses for students in the year 2018-19. The courses have been taken by Year 12 boys’ groups at Al Jazeera Academy in Business and at both Al Jazeera and Al Maha Academy for Boys in Travel and Tourism. Last week the External Verifier arrived in Doha from the UK and issued a glowing report. BTEC Level 3 Courses are considered equivalent to AS level and thus can aid students to meet the the requirements of the MoE’s Thanaweah or High School graduation and entrance to many universities worldwide.

BTEC courses are high quality, hands-on qualifications grounded in the real world of work. They are all about learning by doing and which means BTEC students put what they learn into practice straight away. Throughout the course, students work on a series of assignments set in real-life scenarios, developing the practical knowledge and skills employers and universities are looking for. BTEC-qualified students will keep applying what they learn on their BTEC course as they progress to university or a job – and throughout their future career.

Zainab Hamza, official BTEC External Verifier, travelled from the UK to scrutinise the quality of the students’ work and the veracity of the Centre’s judgements. Amongst the highlights in the report noted in her report for AJA there were references to  ‘Very well-organised and documented course files,  robust internal verification systems in place, excellent uses of Google Drive to upload all teaching material and that the school  has a highly committed team.

Leon Collins, the AJA BTEC Coordinator, said ‘This is a very positive report which underlines the cohesive manner in which the staff team has worked together. The students have worked very hard and are well prepared for the independent modes of study demanded at university.’ Aftab

Dr Mohammed Saefan, Director of Education said ‘It is our goal to ensure the best curriculum opportunities for our young people as they prepare for a bright future. BTEC has presented alternative pathways for Ta’allum students. We are delighted with the work of the staff teams to ensure a most successful first year of these courses.’
